Costume options

Our Holmes (and/or Mycroft) and Watson costumes didn't work out, so we bought a bunch of cheap masks and are going to pick a couple to wear on Halloween-- which ones should we use?

eBay pick of the day: Cwejman lunchbox

Cwejman PH4 and DMF2 modules in a powered case

Someone, quick-- lend me $800! This is a steal! A $600 DMF2 and a $440 PH4 (which I waaaaaant) in what looks like a Doepfer Minicase ($110) for $800 (w/ shipping).

This is like finding a Space Echo for $300-- not the best deal in the world (finding a Space Echo for nothing, for example), but a pretty great one all the same. If the banks weren't in the turlet, I'd take out a loan!

Halloween is so close

It's that time again: what's your favorite song for the Halloween season? "Monster in Black Tights"? "Horror Business"? "Bela Lugosi's Dead"? If you've got one, leave it in the comments!

Also, what's your favorite Halloween-time video (the Rockwell song, maybe)? I like the zombie makeup in this one a lot:

Passive Utility Box

A few basic circuits-- two four-way multiples, two 1/4" <--> 1/8" converters, two attenuators-- in a handy little box that will never need to be plugged in or have its batteries replaced. Plus, it's got the form factor of an ARP MSL module! Hooray!

If I had only drilled the converter section a hair closer to the mults, I could have fit another pair of them in there! Oh well. There's always next time.

That said, next passive project: 3 to 1 mixer with tone controls. The always reliable Beavis Audio Research has diagrams for both in its Potentiometers section.

Shamblers: spotted (outside of Bay Ridge)!

We had a BLAST at this past Thursday's Dave the Spazz live broadcast/dance party. It was great to see so many of our favorite DJs, check out their Hawaiian shirts, etc.

There are some photos from the night up on the WFMU blog and if you look closely in the background at the one below, you might just spy a couple of Shamblers cracking jokes at the bar:

Be sure to check the archives for the show. Dave played T&V fave "The Alligator" at the end of his set and everything!

Speaking of the Tender & Vulnerable, they're playing! In New York! With The Shamblers! And Thee Iran-Contras!! Saturday, November 1st. Union Hall. 8pm. $5. Tell everyone!

Anyway, thanks again for the party, WFMU!

Actual news, as reported in an actual newspaper

From yesterday's Daily News:

What are the chances that one of these guys is the son of an editor?

Good times alert

Next Thursday (the 16th), 8pm, head on over/down to the Tip Top Bar and Grill in Bed Sty for a live "Music to Spazz By + guests" broadcast. By "guests" I mean all of your favorite WFMU DJs, including Mr. Fine Wine, Michael Shelly, fill-in jock supreme Todd-o-Phonic Todd and more!

I'm thinking about making Dave the Spazz Bingo cards for the show-- he plays "Rubber Room," you put a chip over that square. You know how Bingo works.

Hope to see you there!

Are you sure?

The New York Daily News assures readers that despite all appearances, Sarah Palin was not actually totally high during last night's debate.

Interference-VP

Did anyone else hear what I'm going to call "cell phone radio interference" (because I don't know what the actual term is) during last night's debate? By "cell phone radio interference" I mean the sound your speakers make just before the cell phone in your pocket starts ringing. It's annoying and I'm sure at some point in the last ten years, you've heard it.

Case in point-- start listening closely at 0:16 or so:

Did one of the candidates for Vice President forget to take his or her phone out of their suit before entering their only public debate on live, national television? And if so, who would be calling them? During the Vice Presidential Debate?
