Setlist from tonight's show

This evening's show was another great one. Big thanks to utterly intimidating Ric Lichtung (great New Order cover, Ric!), the refreshingly loud Totally Dad and the soon-to-be-huge Drink Up Buttercup for sharing the bill.

Parade preparations

These were taken thirty minutes before the start of the annual Ragamuffin Parade on 3rd Ave. earlier today. The bottom photo is of Joe Hanley, the nice guy who put The Shamblers in Leisure Cove over a year ago:

Two Gun Mathilda stopped by

Two Gun Mathilda was over at Leisure Cove on Saturday, recording yet another hilarious new song for her hotly anticipated new album. The Takka Takka boys played on it as well.

Here are a couple of photos she took on her phone:

Criminal Minded

Jess found this on Craig's List:

"Real life criminal needed"

"You need to look and act like the real thing" is one of the job's qualifications, and it somehow cues a stronger laugh track for me than the ridiculous posting's title. You don't have to search very hard to find examples of non-criminals looking and acting like "the real thing," or of real criminals neither looking nor acting like "the real thing."

And, obviously, there are always the thugs of the upper crust--cut from an entirely different cloth and equally deplorable--to consider, though something tells me white collar thieves aren't exactly the type that's being cast here.

In any case, I'm thinking about applying for the part. I need a good backstory, though-- what should my imaginary rap sheet have on it?

Opening act: The Dils!

I can only imagine the "long hair contest" was Fear's idea. It seems like something they would do.

Anyway, these and others found here. Not the best looking site in the world, but worth checking out-- they've got some great fliers behind the links.

Photos from the Sony Studios auction

I hung out at the Sony Studios auction yesterday and somehow left there not in debt. Expect a full write-up on the event SOON. Until then, here are some photos:

The Candied Hams 7" is finally finished!

The Candied Hams (a novelty Christmas band that Paddy Welch from Survival Suit and I are in) have been recording songs for an upcoming holiday single for the past five years. We got together at the Survival Suit Studio last night and, fingers crossed, put the final nail in the coffin. There's a little bit of tech work left to do, but nothing serious-- I'll be sending the tracks to be cut next week and (again, hopefully) will have the record by Christmas time! Yeah!

Snazzy looking post-Spacemen 3 interview

"Viewing samples. Yes, viewing samples."

It somehow makes that "Anyway That You Want Me" video look cool (and sound good!)

A whole new genre of YouTube videos?

On an assignment for Library School, I happened across a YouTube video of a record spinning Van Morrison's Redwood. It turns out, there is not only one channel devoted to this kind of video, but actually quite a few, and some with specialities, like 78s or colored vinyl and picture discs. The variety of record players and turntables is fun to check out as well. How am I supposed to do homework now?

We have bed bugs, pt. 4

We've had a second wave of bed bugs this past week, which hasn't been fun. We stuck back today, though, and, here's hoping, got rid of 'em for good.

This is what bed bugs look like:

We'd used something that reminded us of "The Stuff" from the movie "The Stuff," which you should all rent immediately, to fill up holes in the floor. You can see it pretty clearly here:

Earlier in the week, we had 5lbs. of diatamaceous earth shipped from in Colorado in and it finally got here yesterday-- it's the heroin looking powder in the photo below. Scary stuff! We had to wear Clinic masks all day just to use it:

Finally, we had to duct tape closed all of the seams on our new plastic encasements, and our bed now looks like some terrifying S&M thing. Our sincere hope is if it does not keep the bugs off of our mattress, it'll at the very least scare the shit out of them:
